{"id":3801,"date":"2018-11-23T19:44:16","date_gmt":"2018-11-23T19:44:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.funnyshirts.org\/blog\/?p=3801"},"modified":"2018-11-23T20:12:37","modified_gmt":"2018-11-23T20:12:37","slug":"following-prediction-betos-post-election-speech","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/apexdrop.eretailing.com\/blog\/following-prediction-betos-post-election-speech\/","title":{"rendered":"Following Up on Our Prediction for Beto&#8217;s Post-Election Speech"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last month, we laid out an extremely <a href=\"https:\/\/www.funnyshirts.org\/blog\/beto-orourke-2020-prediction-october-2018\/\">specific prediction: the exact text Beto O&#8217;Rourke<\/a> would use for his election night speech on November 6th, 2018.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what we got right:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Sadly, it would be a concession speech.<\/li>\n<li>He would lose a close race.<\/li>\n<li>His speech would make huge headlines.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what we got wrong:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Those headlines mostly focused on his use of the word &#8220;fuck&#8221;.<\/li>\n<li>He did not announce a run for 2020.<\/li>\n<li>We did not predict the number of other Texas races he helped to win.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>At first, it seemed like a sad night in Texas. Beto had come close, within two and a half percentage points, but he didn&#8217;t win. Ted Cruz would be going back to the Senate for six (ugh) years.<\/p>\n<p>But the closer we looked at other races around the state, the more apparent the impact of Beto&#8217;s campaign.<\/p>\n<p>It was a huge surge of Democratic turnout, and maybe that wasn&#8217;t enough to tip the scales state-wide, but it sure was enough in certain localized areas. For example, look at Collin Allred in Dallas. He&#8217;s going to take his seat in the United States House of Representatives.<\/p>\n<p>Allred was a terrific candidate and ran a great campaign. But does he get elected without the Beto-surge? Hard to say. Many people will use the term &#8220;coattails&#8221; here but that seems too disrespectful to Allred.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s also Lizzie Fletcher, soon to the representing parts of Houston in the House. Not to mention all the judges and other legislative seats.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re still hoping Beto runs in 2020.
